'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game ended with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful effort from distance, and the defender quickly slammed home the deflection before sprinting toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with the crowd swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory completed an unbelievable turnaround given the team had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory secured a fourth-round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that range," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right wing-back after they changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are very good but even the basics and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they understand how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're all right and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It demands a strong mentality and attention just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he reunited with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without much intensity. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that maturation for his team and nation, shining for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away encounters against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This marks an incredible journey for the kid from the local area in his hometown, just outside the capital, who used to see his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's only game for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was shut owing to temperatures of -15C. "It was a extended travel and it was freezing," he recalls, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I felt I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the lads but I'm aiming to be the following person out of the minibus and driving. Franco is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on the Tube after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
